This data record consists of a single .R file of R code for the computational model described in the publication: Endress, A. D. (2019) A Simple, Biologically Plausible Feature Detector for Language Acquisition, Journal of Cognitive Neuroscience 0 0:0, 1-12, https://doi.org/10.1162/jocn_a_01494.

The related publication takes into account recent evidence for the importance of disinhibitory circuits across taxa and brain regions and suggests a simple circuit to explain the acquisition of core grammatical rules based on sameness/difference relations and common to 85% of the world's languages. The author proposes that having a set of feature detectors for elementary grammatical rules might make language acquisition feasible based on relatively simple computational mechanisms. The proposed feature detector is implemented and tested as a computational model in R.

A summary of previous biological models of sameness detection that were taken into account during the creation of the one presented here is also available via figshare: https://doi.org/10.25383/city.10280579
