A rapid evidence assessment of food education interventions in primary school settings.
This rapid evidence assessment (REA) evaluates food education interventions in primary schools and their impact on children's fruit and vegetable (F&V) consumption, health, and environmental effects. Analysing 20 articles, it examines outcomes like F&V consumption, intervention length, multi-component approaches, parental involvement, and knowledge increase. Various strategies can enhance policies aimed at boosting F&V consumption, leading to positive health and environmental outcomes. Recommendations for policy makers include supporting multi-component cooking and nutrition programs, engaging parents, redefining the curriculum to emphasize vegetables and environmental impact, and providing guidance on education frequency. An evidence-based approach can foster lasting behaviour change. This document was produced as an assignment for the FPM001 Food and Public Policy module undertaken at the Centre for Food Policy, City St Georges, University of London. The document has been written to address a marking criteria and learning outcomes. |
